A typical timber supply chain. Every document is at risk of fraud.

All the solutions proposed by NGOs, governments and certification bodies rely on the ability to trace timber back to a known source.
Current methods of timber tracking rely on a paper-trail of harvesting records, log transportation, factory processing records and export documentation collectively called the “Chain-of-Custody.”
In countries where illegal-logging is a problem, corruption is high. The Chain-of-Custody system is therefore vulnerable to fraud, undermining the efforts to eliminate illegal-logging. Furthermore, the cost to implement and monitor comprehensive Chain-of-Custody systems in every supply chain is a major barrier to adoption by the market.
More work is required to find an affordable, simple, reliable solution. At Double Helix Tracking Technologies, we believe we have found the answer: DNA Verified™ Timber.
